The Academy Trust Handbook makes it clear that from September 2021 there is an expectation that academy trusts should have an external review of governance. As part of our internal scrutiny services, we offer a governance audit to support trustees and governors in continually improving their practices. Our audit framework reviews the following areas:

The SBM Services team have all returned back to work this week, but we just want to advise you that as the majority of the team are based in Essex many of us have found ourselves homeschooling again as primary schools in the county have moved to remote learning in light of current Covid infection rates. We will endeavour to continue to meet the exceptional levels of service that you would expect from us, however, we just wanted to apologise in advance if our response times are a little slower than normal as we juggle the extra pressure remote learning for our children brings. If you find it difficult to get hold of your normal key contact then please call 01206 671103 or email email@example.com
The Academies Financial Handbook 2020 requires all trusts to have a programme of internal scrutiny in place to provide independent assurance to the board that its financial and non-financial controls and risk management procedures are operating effectively. SBM Services offer a wide range of internal scrutiny services and we are pleased to provide a summary of these services in the attached document (click here for details). Prices start from just £675.
If you would be interested in a no-obligation planning meeting to discuss these options in further detail then please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01206 671103.
** New Schools Resource Management Self-Assessment Tool Workshops **
The DfE have recently released the updated schools resource management self-assessment tool that needs to be submitted in March 2021. It is evident from the updated tool that the DfE are placing even more pressure on academy trusts to ensure their financial management governance and procedures are robust with a number of new questions being added.
To support schools in understanding the latest requirements and to provide advice and guidance on how to ensure compliance, we are running two ½ day workshops aimed at Trustees, Accounting Officers, Chief Finance Officers, Business Managers and Finance Staff. Following the session we will also send through to you some supporting resources to help evidence your compliance.
The two dates currently available are:
Tuesday 1st December 2020
Thursday 3rd December 2020
The ½ day workshops will be held via Zoom starting at 9.30am. A charge of £50 per person will be applied.
Due to continued business growth and some further expansion plans, we are recruiting.
If you would like to work for a forward-thinking, dynamic company that is highly regarded in the education sector and with a team that is full of energy and passionate about the work they do then take a look at our vacancies for internal auditors and senior finance and business consultants.
Unfortunately, due to the current social distancing requirements, we have had to postpone our School Community Competition until the 2020-21 academic year. We are disappointed to postpone as we were very excited to receive applications for creative and innovative projects from pupils. However, we hope to re-launch the competition in September 2020. For schools who have already registered their interest, we will be in contact to discuss the new timeline for the competition.
Unfortunately, due to the current social distancing requirements, we have had to cancel our Summer Term Business and Professional Development event. We are sad not to meet with you all face to face but please be reassured we are making sure that those registered to attend will still get all the latest updates. We are also still readily available to provide you with any support or advice that you may need. Please just get in touch. If you have paid in advance of this event, without question, this money will be refunded.
We will be planning our future events over the next few months and we will release details of all our professional development and training events at the start of the Autumn Term, they may just be in a different format to that we are used to.
Thank you to all our clients for your support and being so adaptable to our new ways of working in these unusual times.
